"The definition of exploitation": Madonna is under attack | Israel today

2021-11-24T12:04:42.713Z

The singer posted behind-the-scenes photos of a series of photos she edited, as surfers rushed to resent and criticize her for the content of the things she shared

In recent years, Madonna has gone from being a groundbreaking fashion writer and artist, to a character who tends to get involved quite a bit with Generation Z.

This is due to acts that used to present her as sharp and subversive, and are now perceived by an entire generation of young people with a light finger on the keyboard, as inappropriate.

This week it happened again, when the singer uploaded pictures from her last photo session, and managed to provoke the anger of many for a variety of reasons: from the choice of the subject of photography to the terms of employment in it.

The Queen of Pop has uploaded to her social network a behind-the-scenes photo of her photo shoot for "V" magazine, in which she is seen with photographer Steve Klein holding a knife close to her neck. "Proud of my collaboration with Steve Klein for 'V' magazine, and of knowing that against all odds, with very little support from non-creative people who fought to make it happen, and with an almost zero budget, we were still able to produce art!", The star wrote. "Art is not dead if you have the power to fight for what you believe in," she added. "Thank you to everyone who supported us, slept on couches and worked long hours and for free. All to support Madame X, who is not only here to disturb the peace, but also to keep the art alive."

Of course in today's age nothing can pass quietly, and soon the singer received a slew of abusive comments and criticisms about the disturbing nature of her picture with the photographer, as well as the fact that she proudly declares that people worked for her for long hours without monetary reward.

Respondents called the picture "unacceptable" and "terrible."

In a response that addressed the issue of payment, it was written: "Paying an artist is also relevant."

"The definition of exploitation," it was written in another response, "is 'people work for free in the name of art.'"

Madonna's social media operators rushed to download the image.

The surfers' review did not end there, as the subject of the photographs also caused many to raise an eyebrow.

In the photos, which were taken last month, Madonna is seen with her light, curly hair in the style that characterized Marilyn Monroe, while lying on a hotel bed and giving birth to prescription pills.

This is the singer's attempt to recreate Monroe's latest photographs, taken by Brett Stern in 1962 and dubbed "The Last Sitting".

Filming was completed six weeks before Marilyn's death at age 36, consuming an overdose of prescription pills.

She was found dead in her room on August 4, 1962.

As mentioned, the subject of photography turned out to be controversial in itself, but it is not certain that for the same reasons Madonna imagined.

Among the commenters on the network were those who criticized the musician for choosing to touch on an issue that deals with Monroe's bitter fate.

"For some morbid and frightening reason, Madonna decided to recreate the scene of Monroe's death," tweeted one commenter, adding a picture that compares Madonna's photographs to those of the late star.
