This technique of cybercrime involves sending the victim malware that encrypts all of their data and demanding a ransom in exchange for the decryption password.
Of course, hackers can recover the ransom without sending the antidote, or they can steal remotely and then shamelessly resell the victim's data.
Famous example: the theft of the personal data of 1.4 million people who took a Covid screening test in mid-2020 in Île-de-France.
Martin Hirsch, the director of hospitals in Paris, apologized to the victims, but the damage is done.
