A manuscript with calculations made by Albert Einstein when he tried to formulate his theory of relativity sold yesterday (Tuesday) for 11 million euros at auction in France.
The sale at the Christie auction house in Paris broke the record price of a signed scientific document.
This is one of only two documents presenting the Jewish physicist's theoretical work on his great scientific breakthrough.
The theory, published in 1915, changed humanity's understanding of space, time, and gravity.
The document was written between 1913 and 1914 by Einstein and his Swiss colleague Michel Basso, who held the document.
The auction house praised Basso's forward thinking.
"Einstein is someone who kept very few comments, so the very fact that the manuscript survived and made its way to us already makes him exceptional," said Vincent Blue, an auction house expert.
The pages contain calculations made in black pen when according to Blue, they include some errors made in the journey towards the formulation of the theory.
Christie said the sale "attracted collectors from all over the world who recognized the importance of the document."
