Amthor drives too fast: the verdict is now final - the CDU man actually has to surrender his driver's license

Update from November 24, 2021:

Because of driving too fast, the CDU member of the Bundestag Philipp Amthor (29) has to surrender his driver's license for a month and pay a fine of 450 euros.

A spokesman for the Pasewalk district court in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district announced this to the dpa on Wednesday.

The judgment passed on November 16 is now final.

The district court had sentenced the prominent CDU young politician Amthor to a driving ban and a fine for “deliberately exceeding the maximum speed limit”.

The deadline for filing an appeal had expired on Tuesday evening.

"Nothing was received by the deadline in that regard," said the spokesman.

Amthor, head of the CDU state group Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the Bundestag, is said to have driven at around 120 kilometers per hour through a Tempo 70 zone in 2020.

The incident took place on Bundesstrasse 109 near Ferdinandshof, where accidents had occurred more often at an intersection, so the speed limit had been reduced there.

Amthor had initially filed an objection to the fine imposed by the district authority, which is why the negotiation had come about.

Amthor's lawyer brought new details into play, according to the Pasewalk District Court.

So he said that the member of the Bundestag was not the driver at all.

"The person concerned who was personally present at the main hearing got involved in the matter through his defense attorney to the effect that he denied having been the driver of the vehicle at the time of the crime," it said.

He had denied the accuracy of the measurement result.

According to media reports, Amthor had been photographed by a speed camera and was clearly visible on the recordings.

"The court was nevertheless able to convince itself that the person concerned had driven the vehicle and that the measurement result was correct," said a spokesman on Wednesday.

The politician did not initially comment on this matter.

And just like all other citizens, they have to obey the rules.

But this is not easy for everyone.

CDU Bundestag member Philipp Amthor proves this again (he already caused a stir with a lobby scandal and a photo with Holocaust deniers), because he is now supposed to surrender his driver's license for a month and pay a fine of 450 euros for driving too fast.

The Pasewalk district court sentenced him to this, the 29-year-old confirmed to the German press agency on Tuesday evening.

The broadcaster NDR 1 Radio MV had previously reported on it.

The judgment is not yet final.

CDU politician Philipp Amthor had a lawyer check the fine in court

According to NDR, the hearing came about because Amthor refused to accept the fine.

The current head of the CDU state group Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the Bundestag is said to have driven at around 120 kilometers per hour through a Tempo 70 zone last year.

So a whole 50 km / h too fast.

"I did not even get involved in the process, but had some legal questions examined by an experienced lawyer," said Amthor of the dpa.

“Of course I am not claiming any special rights to drive too fast, but it is also not indecent to have a court review a fine.

Everyone is entitled to it.

In any case, the following applies: Driving too fast is always unnecessary and should not be put into perspective. "
