China announced today that it is firmly opposed to the United States' invitation to Taiwan to participate in the so-called "democracy summit".
"There is only one China, and the government of the People's Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing all of China, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian was quoted by Xinhua as saying.
Zhao called on the United States to abide by the "one China" principle and related provisions in the three China-US joint communiques, and stop providing any platform or support for the so-called "Taiwan independence forces."
Zhao stressed that the United States uses democracy as a cover and tool to advance its geostrategic goals, to suppress other countries, to divide the world, and to serve its own interests.
