Colombian authorities announced today the seizure of ten tons of cocaine in two secret laboratories in the southwest of the country.

The French press agency quoted Defense Minister Diego Molano as saying in a statement to reporters that this is the largest amount of cocaine seized this year, noting that this record amount was found in two laboratories in the village of Samanego in Narino province on the border with Ecuador.

Molano explained that the operation was carried out with the participation of units from the army, police and air force, pointing out that the value of these drugs is estimated at 300 million dollars.

In turn, the Public Prosecution announced that its investigations showed that the drugs were destined for export to Central America and from there to the United States, which is the largest consumer of Colombian cocaine in the world.

The coca leaf crops used to produce this drug covered nearly 143,000 hectares of land in Colombia last year, while the country's cocaine production amounted to nearly 1,228 tons, making Colombia the largest producer of this drug in the world.
