The figures communicated on the occasion of the International Day against Violence Against Women (November 25) are staggering. The number of calls handled by 3919 increased by 114% between 2017 and 2020, according to the National Federation of Solidarity Women (FNSF), which has managed the line since its creation in 1992. Reachable since August 24 hours a day, seven days a week. seven, listeners handled 99,538 calls in 2020, up 22% compared to 2019. The total number of calls received on the platform (164,957) wasjumped 70%.

The period of the pandemic saw an explosion of calls with very serious situations, women who found themselves stranded with their attacker, unable to leave the home
", explains Françoise Brié, director general of the FNSF, who recalls that "
the home remains the place where tensions are exacerbated
".
According to the FNSF, almost all (95%) of the calls “
concern domestic violence
”.
In 69% of the situations, it is the women concerned who call.
In two thirds of cases (68%), the victims reside with the violent partner.
In 2020, more than one in ten women said when listening to having been threatened with death.
Prepare for departure

The women are calling 3919 for help. They can call urgently because they have just left home or have been put on the street,
”says Françoise Brié. At the other end of the phone, the listener directs the victim to an accommodation structure. "

Women very often want to leave their homes. The 3919 is there to support them in the preparation of the departure, to avoid precisely these situations ofemergency
