For more than a year there has been a Seat Ibiza in the parking lot of the Oberndorf bathing area, which apparently nobody wants to have anymore.

The fact that it has not long since been picked up or scrapped has to do with lengthy police investigations.

Oberndorf

- In October a year ago, the responsible police in Herrsching marked the silver vehicle with a red dot for the first time and gave a deadline by when it could be removed. The municipality of Inning informed the Starnberg district office responsible for the recreation area in April. The authority's hands were tied, however, because the police investigations were still ongoing. "It is difficult to understand whether something is wrong when the license plates have been stolen," explains district spokesman Stefan Diebl. It was only four weeks ago that the district authority got the green light to remove the car. According to Herrsching's deputy head of inspection Christian Schäffler, the license plate was only supposed to simulate approval. The last owner probably hoped the grass would grow over it.

The last real registration of the vehicle, which is currently covered with leaves, is dated January 30, 2020. After that, according to Diebl, it was resold several times. Now it is being scrapped, a company has already been commissioned.

It's such a thing with arbitrarily shut down cars.

Several questions arose, says Diebl.

For example, whether the vehicle is on public or private land, or whether it is still roadworthy or not.

Substitute performance can also be imposed on private property if the car poses a threat to the environment - through oil loss, for example.

“You can't just dispose of someone else's property,” says Diebl.

Therefore an attempt will first be made to determine the holder.

“It's not that easy without a license plate.” The owners are often relocated or abroad.

If the names are known, a fine is threatened first, then the substitute performance follows, which is billed to the owner - if he is known.

"In this case, we will probably stay with the costs," said Diebl.
