In the Liberal Democratic Party, Christian Lindner embodies change in continuity.
Installed standing to the right of future Chancellor Olaf Scholz during the presentation of the government's roadmap, the head of the FDP consolidates his pivotal role in German politics, by switching from right to left.
But, unlike his glorious predecessors, including Hans-Dietrich Genscher, he did not set his sights on Foreign Affairs.
At the end of its last experience of government, pushed to a corner by Chancellor Merkel, the Liberal Democratic Party was ejected from the Bundestag in 2013, failing to have been able to keep its promise of lower taxes.
