", the city is financing the development of a roundabout occupied for two years by yellow vests.
A pergola with a roof, a wooden floor, two tables, benches, and six planters are being installed on the roundabout.
The renovation, which must be completed this Thursday, will have cost 11,000 euros.

Since 2018, the city has funded around twenty “
COPs
” per year, or nearly 45 in total, but this is the first site in the colors of yellow vests to benefit from this device.
According to the town hall of Grenoble, the renovation request was made eight months ago by the collective of yellow vests and was accepted this summer.

We have no political criteria on the acceptance of requests for a site open to the public.
It is not because they make claims that displease the government that they do not have the right to the devices worn by the city.
The equipment brought to this roundabout can be used by everyone.
The yellow vests will only use it on Saturdays to hold their General Assembly
, ”explains Margot Belair, ninth deputy mayor and delegate for the Open to the public.
Opposition reactions
Despite everything, the decision made the opposition react.
Emilie Chalas, elected opposition LREM to the town hall of Grenoble, considers this funding "
unacceptable
".

Asked at the microphone of the "
Grandes Gueules
", on RMC this Wednesday, the ecological mayor of Grenoble, Eric Piolle, for his part said "

He explained his decision to release these funds for this famous roundabout: “
It turns out that three and a half years ago we launched a program called 'site open to the public'. Work sites in which there are volunteers who come, who make something. And there is the town hall which provides technical skills and equipment. So it is done for the 'yellow vests' as it is done everywhere for the city. And it works very, very well, it's a way of reclaiming the city,
”he says.
The Worksites open to the public (Cop) of the city of Grenoble bring together agents of the City, volunteers and residents around a common project on public space such as improvements or embellishments.

The inhabitants or interested associations make a request to the services of the town hall which will finance the project.
The sites cost between 5,000 and 14,000 euros
