Waldemar Kreuzer is 91 years old.

Do you have to follow the details of the latest MVV price increase at this set age?

The pensioner from Munich-Feldmoching did not do that - and is now supposed to pay a € 60 fare-dodger fine.

Munich - The world of Waldemar Kreuzer is a bit out of joint right now.

Four weeks ago, the man from Munich said sadly on the phone, his wife came to a retirement home.

It's tough for both of them, also because the home is in Marzling - a little way outside the district town of Freising.

Kreuzer lives in Feldmoching and if he wants to visit his wife, he has to take the S-Bahn and taxi.

So also last Friday.

In the morning shortly after eight thirty, the 91-year-old former plasterer took the S1 towards Freising at Feldmoching station.

The ride on the S-Bahn only takes 23 minutes - but as it happens, this time inspectors got on.

Munich: Man (91) has to show a ticket at the S-Bahn control - and does not suspect anything bad at first

Immediately after leaving, Waldemar Kreuzer had to show his stripe card. The man believed it was properly postmarked - four stripes. Waldemar Kreuzer was a little surprised that the inspector asked for his ID and gave him a strip of paper with small print. But he thought nothing more. "She didn't tell me anything either, just wished me a nice day."

The pensioner got out in Freising, took his taxi and visited his wife.

On the way back in the evening he got into a S-Bahn chaos - the S-Bahn stopped in Eching, the pensioner was standing alone at the station.

Fortunately, he was able to reach his niece, who drove him to Feldmoching.

He told her about the inspection on the drive - and when the relative saw the white strip of paper, she knew what that meant: "Extra fare collection".

"You have to pay 60 euros."

S-Bahn Munich: Pensioners knew nothing of the price increase - he was traveling with an expired stripe card

In fact, in December last year, the MVV increased the price of the strip ticket - it now costs 14.60 instead of 14 euros.

A strip is now six cents more expensive.

He didn't know anything about it, says Waldemar Kreuzer.

He had stamped an old stripe card, but it was only valid three months after the time of the increase - that is, it expired in mid-March.

Not an isolated case: We only reported a similar case at the end of October - a 72-year-old from Munich, also with an outdated stripe card, unintentionally became a fare dodger.

After the S-Bahn episode, Deutsche Bahn does not plan a goodwill arrangement - Munich residents: "I would rather go to jail"

As in the past, Deutsche Bahn does not want to offer any goodwill either.

"I can well understand that a subsequent fare collection is uncomfortable for those affected," says a spokesman.

And behind a trip with an invalid ticket there is also “not always bad intent”.

Nevertheless, all passengers should be treated equally.

"Therefore, I ask for your understanding that in the present case we have to adhere to the additional fare collection that has been issued."

Waldemar Kreuzer is stubborn for the time being: “I have stamped four stripes to the best of my knowledge and belief,” he says.

"I don't pay anything - I'd rather go to jail."
