Baden-Württemberg: Is there a threat of lockdown for everyone?

"We are approaching a situation that we have not yet experienced in the pandemic," said Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) on Wednesday in the special session of the state parliament.

Kretschmann is deeply concerned about the situation.

"500 Corona patients are now being treated in the intensive care unit." Even experienced nurses would reach their limits.

He warns that adequate treatment can no longer be guaranteed.

In some districts, all beds are already occupied.

66 percent of the population have complete vaccination protection in Baden-Württemberg.

In the opinion of the Prime Minister, this is not enough, given the highly contagious Delta variant.

Kretschmann refers to other EU countries.

Among other things, he names countries like Portugal with a vaccination rate of 88 percent, which have a significantly lower incidence.

According to Kretschmann, he underestimated the population's willingness to vaccinate.

He appeals to the population to get vaccinated urgently.

"No unvaccinated person can hide from this highly contagious virus." People would come to the hospital and die.

"Hope we can get around a lockdown, but I can't promise."

Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg Kretschmann

"If the vaccination rate remains so low, we are threatened with a 5th corona wave," said Kretschmann.

The Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg speaks out in favor of compulsory vaccination in order to break the "vicious circle".

Kretschmann does not rule out a lockdown in Baden-Württemberg.

It would be negligent to exclude certain corona rules.

"Hope we can get around a lockdown, but I can't promise."

New corona rules in Baden-Württemberg from Wednesday: Alert level II in force - what that means

First report from November 23, 2021

Stuttgart - As in so many federal states, the current coronavirus regulations are being tightened in Baden-Württemberg. But that has nothing to do with the federal-state summit last week. But solely because a threshold value for the utilization of intensive care beds in the state was exceeded twice in the last week. At times, more than 450 people with Covid-19 infection were treated in intensive care units in the country.

The consequence is called alert level II and applies from Wednesday, November 24th.

The previous alert level in Baden-Württemberg is now called alert level II. For alert level II, which comes into force on Wednesday, more than 450 active Covid cases must be reported in the intensive care units on two days in a row, or the hospitalization rate above a value of 6.0 lie.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, the threshold for intensive care beds was exceeded last Sunday, and on Tuesday a hospitalization rate of over 6.0 made things more difficult.

Alert level II in BaWü: This applies from Wednesday

In the case of alert level II, what already applies in alert level one applies in principle.

Some regulations are simply tightened:

  • 2G-Plus applies to Christmas markets, a mask requirement and the halving of admitted visitors

  • 2G applies to tourist overnight stays in hotels (3G for business overnight stays, but a new negative test result must be presented every three days)

  • 2G generally applies to restaurants and amusement arcades, while 3G Plus is also possible outdoors

  • 2G-Plus applies to the entire event area and the requirement that only half of the otherwise admitted visitors may be admitted

  • 2G-Plus applies across the board in bars, discos and clubs, the previous exception for schoolchildren no longer applies

  • Organizers must check the required evidence via the app and check the identity of the visitors, for example using an identification document

  • 2G applies in cultural institutions such as museums, libraries and swimming pools (exception: state libraries and archives, where a negative PCR test is sufficient)

  • 2G-Plus applies to extracurricular education, adult education, music and art schools

  • 2G-Plus also applies to body-hugging services (exceptions are visits to the hairdresser, where 3G-Plus applies)

Corona in Baden-Württemberg: curfews in hotspot regions

If a rural or urban district exceeds the incidence value of 500 for two consecutive days, it is considered a Hotpsot area.

Even stricter measures will take effect there from Wednesday:

  • Exit restriction for unvaccinated persons from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. of the following day; there must then be a valid reason to leave the apartment

  • 2G for retail and markets (excluding shops for everyday needs)

In other federal states, too, the measures have recently been tightened, for example in Bavaria.

In Saxony and Thuringia, among other things, all Christmas markets have been canceled.
