Bridge construction work is currently underway in two places on or on the B 472 in Bad Tölz.

Bad Tölz - While the new pedestrian crossing at the level of Gaißacher Straße is now largely finished and can be used shortly, the measures to increase the load capacity of the Isar bridge, over which the main road runs, will drag on for a while.

As reported, the work at Gaißacher Strasse / Am Winet began in mid-September.

For a few days now, the new crossing for pedestrians has spanned the federal highway.

"Now we only have to pave the connections on the left and right," explains Gerald Abenthum from the Weilheim State Building Authority.

The transition could then be released in around two weeks.

Probably in January or February the old pedestrian bridge will be dismantled about 30 meters further.

"This will require the B 472 to be completely closed overnight," announces Abenthum.

Just a temporary solution

As reported, a routine check had shown that the previous transition was no longer safe enough due to rust. But even the new construction is not built to last. It is intended for ten to twelve years - because in the longer term it is unclear whether the B 472 will be expanded to three or four lanes at this point.

The ongoing work to strengthen the federal road bridge over the Isar is much more extensive.

A reinforcement measure on the roadway has been completed here these days, as Abenthum reports, namely the installation of carbon fiber elements.

Because a certain temperature is necessary for this, the construction site was last protected with a few tents.

These days, the bridge was sealed with green epoxy resin, "then comes the pavement waterproofing," says Abenthum.

"Let's see how far we can get with it before Christmas."

Full closure probably in February

At the same time, reinforcement measures are still being carried out on the underside of the bridge, where according to Abenthum so-called deflection blocks are currently being concreted on both sides of the bridge.

Probably in February the federal highway will have to be completely closed for a weekend - from Friday afternoon, "as soon as the last school bus has passed through", to Monday morning.

During this time, four cross members would be concreted.

And then the concrete needs around 36 hours to set sufficiently.

"The problem is: if a 40-ton truck drives over the bridge during this hardening phase, it can cause damage," says Abenthum.

Completion early summer 2022

Furthermore, according to Abenthum, eight bridge bearings have to be replaced as a result.

In addition, the worn and no longer repairable road crossings need to be renewed.

“After that, there will be less noise there when driving over there.” According to Abenthum, it will probably take until April or May 2022 until the entire bridge is finished.
