A death sentence was imposed on a smuggler who brought a copy of the successful series to the borders of the totalitarian state

A North Korean state has sentenced a man to death for smuggling and selling copies of the "Squid Game" series after law enforcement in the country arrested seven high school students watching the Netflix hit series.

According to a report that reached the foreign media, the smuggler managed to bring into the totalitarian country a copy of "The Squid Game" from China, and sold on-key disc devices that contain all the episodes of the most popular series in the world right now.

According to sources, he will soon be shot dead.

Beside him, even those who purchased the copies stood trial.

One of them is a student who has been sentenced to life in prison, while six others who watched the program have been sentenced to five years of hard labor.

The students were caught during the viewing act itself thanks to information reaching the "Creator 109", a task force set up by the North Korean government that specializes in capturing consumers of illegal video content.

Teachers and principals from the educational institution to which the students belonged have been fired and face the punishment of exile to miners in remote areas.

Last week, the rfa website reported that copies of the program had found their way into the isolated state, despite attempts by authorities to prevent the entry of foreign content.

From the moment they were smuggled into the country, they were secretly distributed via mobile drives.

Some have found parallels between the dystopian world presented in the series and the conduct of North Korea.

The arrest of the students marks the first time the government has enacted recently enacted laws, whose role is to prevent the consumption of a foreign leisure culture, in this case by minors.

Violation of these laws, enacted last year, carries a maximum price of the death penalty for watching, maintaining or distributing media from capitalist countries, especially from South Korea and the United States.

According to the sources, the seven are planned to go through difficult stages of investigation until the authorities decipher the source of the smuggling, especially at times when the country’s borders are closed due to the corona plague.

Alongside the students, even those who are considered elements of the educational system that surrounds them are likely to be punished - including the school principal, their teacher and even the school secretary.

After the capture, police searched the country's markets for additional copies of the series, as well as other foreign series.

Despite the great fear of many citizens in the country, it is clear that at the right price one can evade punishment.

According to rumors, the wealthy parents of one of the students managed to bribe the authorities and save their son from punishment, using a sum of about $ 3,000.

So far, Netflix has not responded to the affair.
