Oslo-Sana
Today, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Qatari ambassador to Oslo, after the Sheikhdom of Qatar detained Norwegian TV reporters who documented controversial preparations to host the World Cup.
"Halvor Ekeland and Luqman Ghorbani were arrested before they left Doha without giving any reasons, and the two correspondents were released after about 30 hours without any charges being brought against them, and they arrived in Oslo this morning," the AFP news agency quoted the Norwegian public channel as saying.
The Norwegian Prime Minister, Jonas Jahr Store, stressed that the arrest of the correspondents of the public channel in Qatar is unacceptable and that a free press is essential to an effective democracy.
It is noteworthy that the Nordic countries criticized the organization of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar and were at the forefront of countries calling for improving working conditions for migrant workers in the emirate.
