Colorful descriptions of the horror, the humiliation, the trauma.
A woman being dragged by her hair on the road from a passing car, a woman being punished with "lashes" from her husband in front of her children for turning off the boiler too soon, and more and more never-ending horror stories challenging human boundaries.
The other arm of the monster is the statistics, the insane numbers of madness;
The statistic that multiplies by the thousands and tens of thousands every dose of cruelty provided by the first arm;
The statistic that tells us that every minute, even at this very moment, an incident of violence against a woman takes place somewhere.
This monster lives among us in the form of an epidemic.
One that grabbed us from all sides and ate at us everywhere.
We have become accustomed to living with her, we are indifferent even to her most violent variants.
The shocking stories she brings to us appear loosely on an internal page, or in a collection of laconic news items in which public interest is low.
Worst of all, most of these incidents, hundreds every day, hardly reach the media and are content with a hidden page in a police binder or a private diary of a child somewhere.
This is a sign that we no longer care, that we have folded the flag, tried - and now each one will manage on its own.
The corona crisis did not miss the women in Israel, and in fact only intensified the violence.
He clearly revealed the state's failure in eradication, as well as the lack of orderly policies on the subject, which like women, the need for it cries to heaven.
And it seems that while the corona plague in Israel is on the wane, the plague of violence against women continues to rage, and it is here to stay.
Uninterrupted, no vaccine.
In a country where these are the stories, and these are the numbers - our failure as a society!
We have failed to convey the message, even to the women who encounter the first buds of violence, even to the men who dare to do the impossible, even to the judges who in their marble halls are all polite just to return to the crime scene, even to elected officials who shed tears in front of the cameras but do not promote. The required rules, both to the media that does not engage in the campaign and does not make it the campaign of us all, and also to the public, who dabble in happy worlds and prefer cooking and karaoke programs over a burnt woman.
So maybe we deserve it, and maybe we should live on the home butcher knife.
Because if the state is not upset about any mother of children being stabbed at home, if a state of emergency is not declared on the day a woman is stabbed whose nervous fiancée lost the wedding money, if not stop all the ministers' schedules and try as a national project to stop the shedding blood and suffering For a generation - perhaps we have honestly earned this plague.
In the meantime, in front of closed windows and declining ratings, we at WIZO will continue to fight violence against women, not only with symbolic statements on the day of the official struggle, but with activity at all levels and in all sectors throughout the year, and we will not stop until there is not a single woman in Israel .
