Opinion | Break the Knot of Silence | Israel today

2021-11-24T23:11:13.611Z

Community, local, family leadership must convey a sharp, clear, decisive and decisive message: there is no room for violence against women. Whoever acts violently will no longer be a part of us

Silence can sometimes be a very violent act.

More painful than a sudden slap, slicing more than a knife, burning the skin with indifference and cold.

Silence in the face of daily violence - verbal and physical.

Silence in the face of the smallness and humiliation of a woman, a mother, a family member or a friend.

The silence of those who can stop the nightmare.

The silence of the suffering women, who are forced to absorb the pain quietly;

Do not complain, do not shout, just cry quietly at night all they can not say.

Of all the severe phenomena of violence against women, I cry out for silence.

The cases where the inscription is not only smeared on the wall, but rewritten every morning in front of everyone, but does not receive an answer.

The International Day for the Prevention of Violence against Women is dedicated this year to violence in Arab society in Israel.

The weight of the burden placed on the shoulders of an Arab woman suffering from violence is doubly heavy.

The immediate environment not only does not provide support in most cases, but often makes it difficult and encourages silence and concealment.

Those who gather courage and file a complaint often find themselves under a heavy, frightening campaign of pressure from family members and dignitaries.

Exposing themselves to another threat.

More than once they break under the pressure, pulling the complaint, hiding the bruises and moving on to the inevitable end.

And those who do not?

Those who decide to walk with the truth and demand justice, what awaits them?

A laconic letter with three equally painful words: "Lack of public interest."

After all, investigations into the murder of women do not always come to fruition, so when it comes to complaining about violence, the motivation of law enforcement agencies is very low.

No one deceives herself that the police will protect her life from her husband, her brother, even her children.

Anyone who walks around with a death sentence over her head knows that she is alone in the world.

I would like to announce on a day like this about a revolution.

On the establishment of a special police unit to deal with violence against women.

On a significant aggravation in punishment and the creation of deterrence.

On the removal and rehabilitation facilities of violent men, a place from which they must not leave until they have undergone significant treatment and diagnosis that they are no longer dangerous.

Today women who suffer from violence flee to sheltered shelters, and the violent men roam free.

It is completely distorted.

The reality should be reversed.

There are also quite a few soul actors and soul actresses who dedicate their lives to the subject.

In non-profit organizations, in the Ministry of Welfare and at the 118 hotline, in the police and certainly among the brave, heroic activists from the Arab society, who in fact are putting themselves at the center of harsh and sometimes violent criticism.

But all of these together fail to reach the goal: zero cases of violence and murder of women.

To get there requires a significant threat.

Absolute denial of the liberty and rights of a man who raised a hand, who threatened, who planned murder.

Double and double life sentences for those who murdered.

Social exclusion encouraged by clerics and dignitaries.

The shame should be theirs, not the women's.

A man who knows that after the first slap all his acquaintances, friends and family will turn his back on him and drive him away from them, will think twice before the second slap.

It seems that more than once this violence is received with understanding, with a wink, with tacit consent.

This is the violent silence I'm talking about.

Community, local, family leadership must convey a sharp, clear, decisive and decisive message: there is no room for violence against women.

Whoever acts violently will no longer be a part of us.

Only in this way, with determination and crowding of lines, will we succeed in producing true deterrence.

When it comes to violence, unfortunately the situation is only getting worse.

The long-awaited change is destined to come, but it will come.

Thanks to the brave women he will come.

Thanks to the children who will grow up in a different reality.

A reality in which there will be no room for silence.

Where a clear voice will be heard saying: Hales.

Enough violence.

Were we wrong?

Fixed!
