The Transport Department of the New Territories South Region and Lantau Police District officers have been fighting illegal driving of electric removable tools in the district for 3 days (22-24). A total of 4 local men were arrested in Tung Chung and Mui Wo, Lantau. 1 foreign man, 7 local women and 1 foreign woman (between 27 and 62 years old) are suspected of "driving without a valid driver's license", "driving an unregistered and unlicensed vehicle", "no third party" "Using a vehicle for insurance" and "not wearing an approved protective helmet when driving a motorcycle", and detained 13 electric bicycles involved in the case.
All arrested persons have been released on bail pending further investigation and must report to the police in mid-December.
The police reiterated that illegal driving of electric movable tools may cause fatal traffic accidents.
It is illegal for anyone to use unregistered and licensed electric movable tools on roads, footpaths and cycle tracks.
