On a 500-square-meter official land next to the Aberdeen Police Station, some citizens recently discovered that the land has been fenced off. Residents of the nearby housing estates Ease Residences may have to take detours if they want to walk to the Wong Chuk Hang area.

The Lands Department confirmed that the land concerned has been short-term leased to the Aberdeen Police Station under reconstruction since last month for parking police cars. The lease term is 5 years, and it is not ruled out that the lease will be renewed.

The Lands Department emphasized that it had entrusted the Southern District Office of District Affairs to conduct a regional consultation three months ago. During this period, no objections were received, nor was there any response to the establishment of public passages on the site.

The Police Force emphasized that consultation has been conducted.

However, Sima Wen, a member of the Southern District District Council, wrote to the district council that he had never heard about the lease of land before the location involved and questioned the government's temporary allocation of land to the police without consultation.

"Hong Kong 01" has inquired about the incident with the Police, the Lands Department and the Home Affairs Department and is awaiting reply.

Sima Wen raised a question to the government through the Southern District Council, saying that a section of the footpath south of the Aberdeen Police Station on Heung Yeh Street in Wong Chuk Hang had been fenced off and could no longer be used by the public. Residents of Ease Kong had to take a longer distance to get back. Home, worried that the alternative route is close to the traffic road, which is prone to accidents.

Sima Wen said that he had never heard that the government had ever consulted on the issue of granting short-term leases of land, describing the arrangement as "surprising."

The land area involved is 568 square meters

The Southern District Council’s "Economic, Development and Planning Committee" also held a meeting yesterday (23rd) to discuss the incident. The Lands Department’s report on the progress of land allocation for the district’s provisional government mentioned that the land involved "GLA-THK 2067" was also One of the lists is listed as a "new case" with a site area of 568 square meters and is proposed to be used for parking by the police.

In its reply to the District Council, the Lands Department stated that the land involved has been temporarily allocated to the Commissioner of Police as a parking lot for the operation of the Aberdeen Police Station for a period of 5 years, starting from October 8 to October 7, 2026.

The Lands Department emphasized that as early as August this year, the Southern District Office of the District Office was entrusted to conduct a district consultation, and no objections were received, nor was there any response to the establishment of a public passage on the site.

Police: During the construction of the police station, some of the berths were fenced off, so you need to apply for government land

When explaining the reasons for the land lease, the police said that the redevelopment plan for the married police quarters in the Western District started last month. First, a three-story replacement building was built in the Aberdeen Police Station to accommodate the police units that had to be relocated due to the impact. The "Police Station Land", that is, the land dedicated to parking for police vehicles, will be fenced off, causing the number of parking spaces to drop drastically. Therefore, it applied to the Lands Department for an undeveloped government land and emphasized that appropriate consultations have been made and regular reviews will also be made. Long-term action needs for temporary operation of parking spaces.

The Hong Kong Government intends to rebuild the Western District Police Dormitory with 2 billion yuan and set up 540 firefighting units, 600 million New Construction Bureau and 132 dormitories. The Western District Police Dormitory Application for the reconstruction involves 540 residential places. The Police Force applies to rebuild 3 buildings for 540 places
