The former “royal house” a pop-up lodge: the alarm bells are ringing at the Tegernseer Tal protection community.
She wants more protection for Wildbad Kreuth.

Angela Brogsitter-Finck, chairwoman of the Tegernsee Valley Protection Association, is not entirely sure that hotelier Korbinian Kohler wants to become number one on the planet in his segment with Wildbad Kreuth and the "Mental Retreat" planned there. She is concerned about a “place full of magic”, the monastic, royal cultural landscape, a “unique jewel in the Tegernsee valley”, as she writes in a letter to Thomas Goppel as chairman of the State Monument Council. The committee has to decide on the recommendation of district builder Christian Boiger to place the entire ensemble of Wildbad Kreuth under monument protection. In addition to the existing protection of the building, the outdoor facilities would also be a special focus of the experts. As reportedthe Kreuther municipal council unanimously supported Boiger's proposal in September.
Pop-up Lodge and Bussi Baby: Schutzgemeinschaft sees caution
Brogsitter-Finck wants to emphasize the urgency of the matter with the SGT letter.
In her letter to Goppel, she explains that the bustling hotelier Kohler has turned the area of the historic building, once known as the “royal house”, into a “pop-up lodge” and the former Wiesseer Hof into a kissing baby outstanding alpine pastures in the area.
Kohler himself would have absolutely nothing to object to ensemble protection for Wildbad Kreuth.
De facto, this is already there, says the entrepreneur.
The additional protective bell would not stand in the way of his plans, assures Kohler: “We have the highest demands on ourselves.” Incidentally, the planning is progressing well, and in a few months he will be able to present more specific information.
Kohler took the fate of the spa into his hand a year ago.
In April 2020, the entrepreneur signed a 50-year long lease with the newly founded Herzogliche Wildbad Kreuth family company.
It is about an area of five hectares including the main building complex with 8500 square meters of living space.
Wildbad Kreuth previously served as the Hanns Seidel Foundation's education center for four decades, from 1974 to 2016.
The annual CSU exams that brought Kreuth into the headlines January after January were legendary.
After 2016, Duchess Helene, who also lives there, tried to find a tenant and investor for the ducal estate.
Several attempts failed.
Kohler takes the time to plan
Kohler took two years to plan, the concept should be in place by the end of 2022, then the renovation could begin in spring 2023 and the opening could be celebrated in autumn 2024.
Inside everything will be new, the historical facade will essentially remain.
In order to bridge the time until the start of the construction work, Kohler brought the Munich luxury caterer Ulrich Dahlmann on board.
As a cooperation partner, Dahlmann has been marketing the whey hall, the ballroom, the old restaurant and the mountain meadow for two years.
Hotelier Kohler also offers 27 rooms as a pop-up lodge in the building.
Fears have so far not come true
Fears that wild parties will take place in front of a historical backdrop on the mountain meadow throughout the summer have not yet come true.
At least Kreuth's mayor Josef Bierschneider has not heard of any complaints about the new event location: "You didn't hear anything."
In any case, there were only two or three events this summer, reports Kohler.
The rooms in the pop-up lodge are being used, and that is a good thing.
The aim is to fill the house with life, Kohler makes it clear: "Empty buildings quickly deteriorate."
