Good news for Freising: After a break of around six months, the city center is getting its own post office again.

Even the opening date is already there.

Freising

- When Roland habenstein exclusively announced to the Freisinger Tagblatt in the spring of this year that he would give up his business at Oberen Hauptstrasse 47 at the end of June, the disappointment was great. After around 34 years, Photo Porst not only disappeared another traditional company from the city center, but also closed the last remaining post office in Freising's old town. And while Photo Porst soon became the fashion store “Die Moosacherie”, attempts to set up a post office or post office in the city center were unsuccessful. Until now.

In the city's finance committee, Lord Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher was able to announce good news about a month before Christmas: As Deutsche Post AG told him and the city, they will open and operate their own branch on November 30: at 34 Obere Hauptstrasse .

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

A traditional Freising company was also at home at this address for a long time: Uhren Erber.

This was followed by the jewelry store “Zeit und Glanz” and the wedding ring shop, both run by Markus Kraemer, before he gave up his business in the first pandemic year of 2020.

The premises have been empty since then.

So now the post is moving in there.

The branch is due to open on November 30th and will even be operated by the Post itself.

This has not existed in the city center since the closure of the popular “city post office”, which had closed its revolving doors at the turn of the millennium.

The commitment of the city administration has proven itself

"The city of Freising is happy about this contribution to the basic supply in the Freising city center", said city hall press spokeswoman Christl Steinhart the FT.

She also praises Swiss Post's own commitment.

Because actually the company wanted to find an external operator for a city center branch - but in vain.

"We very much welcome the fact that the post office is now opening its own branch in the Upper Old Town."

But the commitment of the city administration has also paid off.

The Office for Real Estate and Economic Development and the Active City of Freising were in constant contact with the Post and tried to support the company in finding a suitable shop, especially since the city was unable to offer suitable space from its own real estate portfolio.

"The city has regularly made it clear how extremely important a Post Service Branch is in this area for both the population and the company."

The opening date and opening times have been fixed

Accordingly, Max Kirchmaier is also delighted with the Active City.

“Business people in the city center think that's great because a post office is an additional service for visitors to our city center.

We are very happy that Swiss Post sees it that way now. "

The Post confirmed to the FT that it should start next Tuesday.

"We are happy to be back in the Freising city center and look forward to serving customers," said company spokesman Dieter Nawrath.

The future opening times are Monday to Friday 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
