Weil / Schwabhausen - A central village meeting point is to be created in a restaurant garden in Schwabhausen that is no longer in use - usable and accessible to everyone. How this can work is currently shown by committed Schwabhausen citizens with the project idea “Wirtsgarten Linde Schwabhausen”, which recently won over the decision-making body of the local action group LAG Ammersee and received a commitment for the Leader support program.

The small district of Schwabhausen is located six kilometers east of Weil. Just under 1,200 people live here. But they are all the more committed. Just like the 52-year-old Heidrun Schadl. She was born and raised here - and in many ways active in her village, she explains. Has been a member of the local sports club since 1982 - now an exercise leader for a Pilates group. “What I do I do for a long time,” she says. As a councilor, she represents her district as one of four Schwabhausen councilors and is particularly committed to the interests of the elderly.

It was also Schadl who came up with the idea of making the local garden, which is overgrown with old linden trees, usable again. It is located next to the former “Zur Linde” inn, which is now home to the “Oide Schui” pizzeria. The name in turn indicates that the building was an old school until around 1969, explains Schadl. You can still remember the time, around 20 years ago, when there was a round beer table set in the garden. All the people would have gathered here, sat, ate, drank. To have something like that again is "totally nice". The idea of "Wirtsgarten Schwabhausen" was born. A place that invites you to meet and linger, across generations. “Old and young should come together”, that is important to Schadl.

Last September, she arranged an on-site meeting with other interested parties. Almost 25 people came together spontaneously. There was also great popularity and many suggestions over the phone or by e-mail. It was agreed: boules pitch, table tennis table, a stage for performances, seating, fireplace and portico - these should be the components of the future garden.

From then on, the plan was drawn up, reports Schadl. A local council colleague had drawn plans, and offers were obtained jointly. Christian Bolz, mayor of the community of Weil, who owns the property, was also asked. He was immediately enthusiastic - and, as chairman of the LAG Ammersee, proposed the matter for a Leader project: "It's exactly what Leader is about - civic engagement."

Now it was time to step on the gas.

It was Weil's second mayor, Franz Schäufler, who presented the project to the committee at the beginning of November.

With success and great approval.

With the unanimous vote, a funding application can now be submitted, which can include a funding amount of 15,000 euros for a project volume of 30,000 euros.

According to Schadl, sponsors are still being sought for the gap.

The garden design will be done by the citizens with a high degree of personal contribution.

“Everyone wants to help and get involved,” says Schadl.

"It would be a dream if we can open in summer." Corona, however, makes regular meetings of the working groups difficult.

In addition, the decision of the municipal council is still pending.

It met yesterday evening - what came of it was not yet clear at the time of going to press.
