Update: The first slopes are groomed and the winter season has started, at least on the Zugspitze.

On November 19th, skiing fun could still be enjoyed with 2G - 2G plus has been in effect since November 24th.

Only vaccinated and convalescent people with an additional PoC antigen test can use the Zugspitze cable car and the cog railway (mountain route).

Bayerische Zugspitzbahn AG has developed an extensive hygiene concept for its mountain railways and restaurants so that skiers and winter friends can enjoy their stay safely and relaxed. At the start of the season on November 19, the 2G rule for the use of mountain railways and ski lifts applied. A valid identification document had to be presented together with one of the following certificates: • Proof of a complete protective vaccination against the coronavirus or Days and a maximum of six months old. Children under the age of 12 do not have to provide proof of 2G. In the meantime, the requirements have been tightened: Since November 24th, the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn has been using 2G plus. The basis is the new corona rules that Bavaria has issued in view of the increasing number of corona infections.

An FFP2 mask must also be worn in all indoor rooms, waiting areas (outside and inside), in the cable car cabins, the cogwheel train as well as chair lifts and drag lifts. The regulations can still change during the winter season, depending on the infection situation and legal requirements. Please find out more at

The cogwheel train is a specialty: the cogwheel train runs

on the valley route between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Eibsee in public transport.

Guests who only drive on this route do not need a 2G plus certificate.

For the journey on the mountain route (to the Zugspitze), a 2G plus proof must currently be presented together with the ID (vaccinated or recovered + additional PoC antigen test).

The controls for this take place on the platform before boarding the train.
