“Someone to Talk to
is a singular album for its unparalleled power of narration and the accuracy of the dialogues.
A lively emotion arises from each drawing made by Grégory Panaccione.
A remarkable work that focuses on what should be the essence of expression,
”greeted Wednesday Jean-Pierre Gibrat, president of the Landerneau BD prize, when choosing the 2021 winner.
Poetry, adventure and tender humor
In this superb adaptation of Cyril Massarotto's novel, Grégory Panaccione features Samuel, 35, single without children, locked in deep loneliness. On his birthday, he calls the only number he knows by heart: his childhood home. To his surprise, someone picks up: himself, at the age of ten. At first intrigued, the little boy gains confidence and confides his dreams to her. As an adult, he saw himself embracing a career as a footballer, writing books and undertaking great journeys. The thirty-something on the phone has not achieved any. And realizes that it's time to take charge of his life.
Panaccione's story, brilliantly relayed by an expressionist line, interweaves, over more than 250 pages, poetry, romanticism, adventure and tender humor. He succeeds the equally fabulous
Peau d'homme,
the semi-autobiographical fable by Zanzim and Hubert.
