Stiko has still not made a recommendation for the corona vaccination for children aged five and over.

This should now come in December.

In the EU, corona vaccines are approved from the age of twelve.

Berlin - The Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) wants to make its recommendation on corona vaccination for children from five to eleven years before the end of the year.

"Our goal is to have this recommendation ready by the end of December, if possible by the start of delivery of the children's vaccine to the federal states," said Stiko chairman Thomas Mertens to the newspapers of the Funke media group.

The recommendation is currently in progress.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is expected to approve the Biontech / Pfizer vaccine for children aged five and over this week.

According to the acting Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU), 2.4 million doses of the vaccine for five to eleven year olds are to be made available to the federal states in a first delivery from December 20.

It is known that in younger people after vaccinations with mRNA preparations, heart muscle inflammation can occur in rare cases.

One of the two vaccines should therefore not be given to those under 30 years of age in the future.

With around 4.5 million children in this age group, you will be able to answer the initial demand well, said Spahn last week.

So far, corona vaccines have only been approved in the EU from the age of twelve.

The Stiko is also concerned with receiving data on rare vaccination complications from other countries as a basis for its recommendation.

In the USA, for example, smaller children have been vaccinated with the lower-dose active ingredient since November; according to government figures, around 2.6 million five to eleven year olds have received their first injection so far.

The situation there and the state of health of the children in the USA are not considered to be 1: 1 comparable with Germany.
