Munich - Messe München is canceling the popular Heim + Handwerk trade fair and Food & Life in view of the stricter Corona regulations.

The corresponding decision was made this morning, said fair spokeswoman Nina Gassauer on Wednesday afternoon on request to

Merkur.de.

The two fairs should take place at the same time between December 1st and 5th.

The "uncontrolled, soaring number of infections, a red hospital traffic light and the very short-term changing requirements on the part of politics up to the 2G-plus regulation with visitor restrictions make it impossible to hold Heim + Handwerk and Food & Life," said Gassauer. Around 600 exhibitors at Heim + Handwerk alone are affected by the decision. Before the pandemic, the fair attracted around 1200 companies and around 120,000 visitors.

Because of the aggravated pandemic situation, the Bavarian state government had recently tightened the Corona * rules several times.

It was only on Tuesday that Prime Minister Markus Söder raised the bar again.

According to this, an upper limit of a maximum of 25,000 trade fair visitors per day will apply in the Free State.

Previously, 50,000 trade fair visitors were allowed daily.

In addition, the 2G plus rule has been in effect for trade fairs since Friday.

This means that only vaccinated and recovered visitors with an additional test are allowed to attend trade fairs.

A good three weeks ago, 3G was still in effect for a major event.

Stricter corona rules: Heim + Handwerk canceled - trade fair boss angry at politics

The head of the trade fair organizer of Heim + Handwerk GHM, Dieter Dohr, was angry about the repeated tightening of the corona rules in the Free State.

"The short-term nature of the new rules makes the entire situation unpredictable," explained Dorn in a press release that was sent in the afternoon.

The rules would amount to "a ban on events through the back door."

The financial consequences of the cancellation are likely to tear a noticeable hole in GHM's budget planning.

According to initial estimates, the investments made so far are around one million euros.

According to Gassauer, the trade fair organizer does not count on government aid: Despite the unpredictability and short-term nature of the requirements, “we are falling through the cracks here”.
