The city of Füssen is running out of Christmas trees.

Therefore, in 2022, no more large Christmas trees will be erected on Schrannenplatz or in Bad Faulenbach.

Mayor Maximilian Eichstetter (CSU) announced this to the city council last week.

During the Christmas season, only customary Christmas trees are supposed to create an Advent atmosphere.

The days are getting shorter, the temperatures colder and the Christmas trees are moving in Füssen: When the year draws to a close, stately coniferous trees at the Stadtbrunnen, Schrannenplatz, Kaiser-Maximilian-Platz as well as in Bad Faulenbach, Hopfen and Weißensee create a Christmas atmosphere.

In addition, 50 to 60 smaller Christmas trees adorn the cityscape.

But for years it has become more and more difficult for the city of Füssen to get new Christmas trees, informed Mayor Eichstetter.

The building yard even has to fetch adequate trees from Buching and Seeg - a huge organizational and costly effort for the city.

If you add up the expenses for staff and vehicles, the Christmas trees cost the city treasury with around 30,000 euros.

That is why the city has launched a tree call this year in the media - with poor results.

Only nine citizens came forward to have potential Christmas trees examined.

The city administration can actually decorate its cityscape with four of them.

Because not all trees are the same.

After all, a Christmas tree not only has to look good, it also has to grow in places where it can be felled and transported easily.

“The beautiful trees remain with the owners.

Most of the time, only complicated and impassable trees are reported, ”said the meeting documents.

There are enough small ones

On the other hand, there doesn't seem to be any problems with the small Christmas trees.

According to the city administration, a great many of them would be built up in the municipality, for example by the advertising community.

This now draws consequences: "Next year we will reduce the trees from six to four, in the hope that we can get them together," informed the town hall chief.

So then only small or medium-sized Christmas trees will adorn Schrannenplatz and Bad Faulenbach.

But: "We are always open to beautiful trees that are easy to remove," emphasized the mayor.
