The branch of the General Organization for Seed Multiplication in Al-Hasakah Governorate continues to provide the farmers with sifted, sterilized and guaranteed seed material in order to implement the sub-agricultural plan for the winter season for wheat and barley crops.

The director of the Foundation’s branch, Eng. Ayed Al-Hussein, revealed to the SANA Economic Bulletin that the amount of seeds that have been sold to farmers has reached 900 tons to date, while the amount of seeds ready for sale is 2,800 tons in parallel with the continuation of sifting and sterilization operations for additional quantities, noting that the Corporation provides wheat seed at a price of 1585 pounds per kilogram and barley at a price 1743 Syrian Pounds per kilogram, which is much lower than the current seed prices in the local markets.

Al-Hussein pointed out that the sale of wheat seed to farmers is carried out through an agricultural license, a clearance from the Agricultural Bank branch, and a letter from the Directorate of Agriculture in which farmers and peasants pledge to supply their entire production to the grain receiving centers of the branch of the Syrian Grain Corporation in Qamishli.

For their part, a number of the governorate’s farmers, including Salah al-Hajji from the people of Tel Brak district and Salama al-Ukla from the eastern countryside of Hasaka, demanded the need to abolish the condition of selling seed materials by presenting a clearance from the banks, since the majority of farmers have debts to banks as a result of the decline in the reality of plant production due to the circumstances. The current droughts, which led to a decline in production

The farmers incurred great losses, pointing out that they were forced to buy seeds from the local market from unsecured sources and of low production quality.
