Beginning Jan. 22, the United States will require that all foreign travelers entering through land borders be fully vaccinated, a White House official told The Associated Press (AP) on Tuesday.
This includes workers considered essential
, such as truck drivers, public officials, and emergency personnel.
This measure will complement the one that began to be applied in early November for the arrival of tourists from 33 countries.
Those who cross by ferry must also be immunized, said the official who requested anonymity.

Despite the fact that in early November the border was reopened for all travelers on the condition that they were fully vaccinated, people considered essential were allowed to enter the country without temporarily presenting their vaccination status.
However, the White House has come under fire for requiring vaccination of all people crossing the border.
"These requirements are another example of how impractical regulations will prevent drivers from traveling on the roads," said Norita Taylor, spokesperson for the
Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association.

This mandate, she says, could "force" experienced owners, operators and drivers to "go out of business."
This while the country faces a deficit of truckers to move loads and products.
This rule does not apply to US citizens and residents, although negative tests for COVID-19 will be required.

The most recent restriction is in addition to other mandates such as vaccinating federal employees.
Official sources reported this Monday that more than 90% of government workers have already received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has warned that at least 47 million adults in the United States remain unimmunized.
