The post of Vice Chancellor is to be awarded to the Greens and Christian Lindner (FDP) has denied having ambitions for the office himself. Did that change again?

The post of Vice Chancellor is to be awarded to the Greens and Christian Lindner (FDP) has denied having ambitions for the office himself.

Did that change again?

Berlin - The Greens are the second strongest force in the future traffic light coalition after the SPD - and thus secure the post of Vice Chancellor.

Robert Habeck (Greens) has the best chance of becoming Vice Chancellor.

But what about the third party in league, the FDP?

Party leader Christian Lindner had denied his ambitions to become vice chancellor.

He assumes that everyone can contribute fairly, but not that there will be two vice chancellor posts.

But now the coalition agreement surprises with one detail - and Lindner could gain influence.

New vice-vice-chancellor post for the FDP in the traffic light government

If you look at the details of the coalition agreement, you can see an innovation in brackets.

The distribution of the departments is as follows: "The FDP is in charge of the following ministries: Finance (also § 22 GO BReg)."

Behind this wording there is a reference to the rules of procedure of the federal government.

There it says in paragraph 22: “The meetings of the Federal Government take place under the chairmanship of the Federal Chancellor, in the case of his handicap under the chairmanship of the Deputy Federal Chancellor.

If the deputy is also unable to attend, the chairmanship is chaired by the Federal Minister specially designated by the Federal Chancellor or his deputy (...). "

It also seems clear that this specially designated Federal Minister will be the future Federal Minister of Finance.

And the FDP federal executive has already nominated its party leader Christian Lindner for this post.

Speculation about two Vice Chancellors at Ampel: does the Basic Law allow that?

In the meantime it had been speculated that there could be two vice chancellors in the three-party alliance of the SPD, Greens and FDP.

It remains to be seen whether this would work.

The Basic Law only says: "The Federal Chancellor appoints a Federal Minister as his deputy".

It is still unclear who will actually take over the vice chancellery.

The Federal Foreign Minister has often held the office in the past.

The Greens only want to announce their government details on Thursday.

Party leader Annalena Baerbock is currently acting as foreign minister - she would be the first woman to hold this post.
