The corona crisis is overshadowing the start of the new coalition. The three-way alliance must now show decisiveness very quickly. Otherwise there will be no departure.

The traffic light coalition does not start.

She stands.

Because despite 177 pages of coalition agreement and the headline "Dare to make more progress", which is reminiscent of the 1970s of the social-liberal coalition, nothing will happen at first.

The corona crisis will keep the country under control for at least the next few weeks, more months. And if the future government continues to act as helplessly as it did during the coalition negotiations, the promised and urgently needed departure will not materialize. The following applies to the coalition now: Either it shows the necessary stature in the crisis or the people in the country will not give it the trust that we need "for the greatest industrial modernization of Germany in more than 100 years" from the future Chancellor

Olaf Scholz

(63, SPD) spoke at the presentation of the contract.

In fact, as in most coalition agreements, there are many good intentions. And also a number of specific suggestions. Germany should become fairer (SPD), freer (FDP) and more ecological (Greens) - who could have anything against it? With the help of shadow households, a lot should be invested in infrastructure and the restructuring of the economy - sounds good. The time for the approval process is to be cut in half at least - that would be a start. At the opening press conference, the similarities between the partners were emphasized - the goodwill is there, no question about it.

But where is the leadership in the crisis?

In the case of Corona, the three parties have so far agreed on the lowest common denominator when it comes to combating the epidemic.

The FDP has obviously specified this, which is already evident from the fact that the minister-presidents of the SPD and the Greens are now advocating tougher restrictions.

When asked specifically about the coalition's Corona plans, Scholz replied when presenting the coalition agreement: "Clear, orderly behavior is required here."

The undoubtedly great ability of Scholz to regularly evade specific questions does not create trust.

This kind of governance and communication will not be enough for a new start for Germany.

Willy Brandt and Helmut Schmidt, who, as Chancellors, recently relied on "progress" in the social-liberal sense, have dared to do more.
