After the SPD, Greens and FDP agreed on a coalition agreement, the US government reaffirmed its will to work with the future federal government.
The US would also expect "incredibly close and effective" relations with Germany in the future, a spokesman for the US State Department said on Wednesday.
"Germany is one of the USA's most reliable allies."
"We look forward to working with the new German government on our goals of revitalizing the transatlantic partnership, increasing cooperation with our NATO allies and increasing the ambition in our relationship with the EU," the spokesman continued.
The traffic light coalition presented its coalition agreement entitled “Dare to make more progress” on Wednesday.
