Waakirchen - Seniors aged 65 and over who live in Waakirchen will soon be able to travel free of charge on RVO buses.

The local council recently voted in favor.

Now it's official: Waakirchen is testing the RVO senior citizen's ticket, which allows people over 65 to travel free of charge through the Oberland by bus.

The local councils unanimously approved the introduction at their most recent meeting.

However, there were inquiries regarding a cap.

According to Mayor Norbert Kerkel, there are currently 1,225 seniors over 65 years of age registered in the community.

“The ticket is definitely a good thing and a positive signal for our seniors,” he says.

Administration training would cost the community 250 euros per hour, as well as 1.50 euros per personal card issued and 6.37 euros per day trip.

MVV membership is not an obstacle

Kerkel reminded that the tickets are only valid for the RVO lines and that the offer will probably expire when the district joins MVV.

But the panel did not see this as a counter-argument.

Gisela Hölscher (FW) welcomed the planned introduction as senior and disability officer anyway.

Michael Mohrenweiser (ABV) also advocated just trying it out for as long as possible.

All he asked was to make the offer known locally and to advertise it.

Cornelia Riepe (Greens) also saw no contradiction in joining the MVV and praised the senior citizen ticket as a further contribution to the acceptance of public transport.

Mayor Kerkel also found the future membership of the MVV as not a hindrance.

The RVO invoices the municipality for the journeys that have been made.

He could not answer how the transport company technically counts and bills the daily trips.

Senior ticket will be ordered

Alfons Finger (CSU) also described the senior citizens' tickets as a wonderful story. Nevertheless, he would consider capping the offer: "If it is used a lot, the community will have to pay high costs." However, such a limitation would have to be negotiated with the RVO, emphasized Kerkel. With the GibMir5 ticket, the costs are capped at 50,000 euros, the town hall chief reported and said: "But we won't bring that much together."

The municipal councils unanimously decided to commission the senior citizen ticket and put it up for discussion again in November 2022.

According to RVO representative Andreas Päschel, who presented the offer at the October meeting, the introduction will take about three months.

So the senior citizens of Waakirchen aged 65 and over could travel free of charge with the RVO through the Oberland as early as spring 2022.
