Magdalena Anderson, was forced to resign today (Wednesday) after failing to pass the state budget law in parliament, hours after she was sworn in.
Following this, Green Party members resigned from the government and House Speaker Andreas Nurlan was left with no choice but to agree to leave while saying he would "discuss the situation" with the rest of the party leaders.
As mentioned, the budget initiative of Anderson (54), the first woman in office on behalf of the Social Democratic Workers' Party of Sweden failed and Parliament was forced to pass in its place a budget law of the opposition including a plan by the right-wing Sweden Democrats.
"The government has voted in favor of a budget run by a far-right party," said Green Party spokesman Per Bolund.
"This is something we very much regret," he added.
In a vote of confidence earlier in the Riksdag, MPs approved her candidacy on Cole's tip, with 349 seats out of 179, 174 in favor, 117 in favor and 57 abstentions.
Another legislator was absent from the vote and thanks to him became prime minister.
"There is a constitutional practice whereby a government should resign when one party resigns," Anderson said after the vote that decided her fate.
"I do not want to lead a government whose legitimacy is in doubt," she added honestly.
The general election is expected to take place in September 2022, a distant date that will make it difficult for the new government to train and could cause prolonged political instability.
Just about two weeks ago, Stephen Leven resigned as prime minister and paved the way for Anderson as state leader, but as mentioned her tenure survived for only a few hours.
