This debate resurfaces regularly: the return of military service, the end of which was announced in 1996 by the President of the Republic Jacques Chirac. The subject was relaunched by former European Commissioner Michel Barnier, candidate for the LR nomination for the presidential election. If he was elected president, he promised to "
submit to a parliamentary debate (...) the idea of recreating a compulsory six-month service (...) called military service, security and civil protection
", a- he declared Tuesday on France Info. This military service will concern "
