"Everyone is interested in Jews": Arab countries fell in love with Israel | Israel today

2021-11-25T14:17:01.438Z

"Dubai has become much safer than Paris or Berlin," says Dr. Eddie Cohen, a senior researcher at the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies at Bar Ilan. The Jews exist - and they are with us! ' • In the eyes of a Twitter influencer: "I am exposed to a great deal of support and the reactions of the 'right Jew'"

The signs of the extent of the lateral effects of the spirit of Abraham's covenants on the language of the whole space, are already giving their signals.

"I will tell you about two events that we did not hear about for at least 50-60 years, until the dam opened, and which recently occurred naturally" - this is how the orientalist Dr. Eddie Cohen, a senior researcher at the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies at Bar Ilan University, begins our conversation.

These are two cases of Jews invited to Lebanon and Syria, as described below, which in Dr. Cohen's eyes represent no less than a profound change of consciousness among the Arabs of the region in relation to the Jews and their approach to Israel.

Spirits of change.

On Monday, November 1, this year, Lebanese Ambassador to France Rami Adwan hosted dozens of Lebanese Jews at his home in Paris.

For Cohen, a native of Beirut, this was no coincidence: "This is an unusual and even unusual meeting, in which the ambassador praised the Lebanese Jewish community, in a language not heard in recent years towards Jews by a senior Lebanese official. He spoke of coexistence, freedom of worship and It is the responsibility of the state to protect all its citizens.

"One of the guests was the historian Naji Zeidan, who came especially from Brussels. Zeidan is known for his book about the Jews of Lebanon, and is currently finishing writing his second book. In addition, the ambassador honored the Jewish guests with kosher food specially ordered for them. Such a thing could not have happened without high-level approvals. "

The second incident is the visit of a delegation with dozens of Syrian Jews living in the United States, who recently arrived in Damascus and stayed in the city for two weeks.

For those who do not remember, the Jews fled Syria in the 1990s because of anti-Semitism, while now Bashar al-Assad is showing signs of courting the Jews. "

These two events, seemingly coincidental, are, in Cohen's opinion, the result of the profound change that the Abrahamic Agreements caused the Arabs' perception and consciousness in the region in relation to Jews and Judaism.

"Of course it did not just happen like that. After all, historical experience shows that Jews flee from such countries, so what we are predicting now is inconceivable, no less," Cohen explains.

"It does not happen in a vacuum," he emphasizes, "it is a fundamental change. I find a direct connection to the spirit of the Abrahamic Agreements in this matter. In our broader perspective, all of these are expressions of the courtship of Arab countries after the Jews: we have seen this in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco, and today we are experiencing the first buds of the thing in the Middle East. Cohen recounts his visit to Dubai about a month ago where, he said, "I felt completely safe. I saw Jews with domes in a Dubai mall. Without fear. Dubai has become much safer than Paris or Berlin."

In this context, the Mizrahi expands and says that "everyone is now interested in Jews, even though they do not know how to receive them. Take, for example, Portugal - why do they want to give free passports to Jews? They broadcast by 'bringing the Jews.' "Of course, but the Arabs began to perceive the Jews in this way."

About half a million followers.

"Things are changing in this era"

Dr. Cohen is a dominant network influencer who has more than 450,000 followers on Twitter, most of them from the Arab world. Only recently was his Twitter account chosen as the most influential in the Arabic language for the Arab audience, in a test that included all interaction with the Arab world.

"I breathe the Arab space, talk to many people," he says, "I was recently interviewed by a Russian channel whose majority of consumers are Iranians and Syrians. The Jew is right.

"I definitely see the change. Just four years ago, when I started communicating and tweeting massively, people were afraid to like or retweet. Now look at what's going on - the situation is completely reversed. Abraham's agreements led to a change of consciousness in the political thinking of the peoples in the region. "Regarding the attitude towards the Jews. Those who led this spirit in the Arab countries and gave it an echo are the Emirates, in the form of the Abrahamic agreements. I am very realistic and do not want to sail, but it can be said in this context that things change during this period,
