Hawaii is known for beautiful beaches, breathtaking nature - and possibly soon also for a special kind of attraction: an alcoholic river.

The Waipio Valley on the Big Island is a popular tourist attraction for all Hawaii visitors: In addition to beautiful hikes in the tropical nature, the famous valley can be wonderfully overlooked from a vantage point and captured with snapshots.

The newest attractions of the Waipio Valley could now include an alcoholic river - but rather involuntarily.

The river in Hawaii suddenly stinks of beer - and contains alcohol

"When we came here the other day, you'd think it was a pub that hasn't opened for three or four days," said environmental activist Carrol Cox in a report on Hawaii News Now.

The river suddenly smelled

like

beer

, as they say.

The transmitter gave a sample of the water to a laboratory, which found strange things: the water had an

alcohol content of 1.2 per mille

.

An increased amount of sugar was also found.

Cox informed the Ministry of Health that they were looking for clues.

The cause of the alcohol content was ultimately found to be a

leak in a sewer pipe

near a motorway.

From there,

alcohol-containing wastewater ended up

in the river in the Waipio Valley.

The wastewater apparently comes from the "Paradise Beverages" brewery, the largest distributor of spirits and alcoholic beverages in the state, as the TV station's report goes on to say.

The brewery has a warehouse near the sewer pipe - however, the problem is not going to be fixed as it seems.

You don't know where the leak is or what the cause is.

"It could come from us, so we're working with the relevant authorities," said Anthony Rowe, the company's operations manager.

It is not yet known when the problem will be resolved.

At the moment, however, no further contaminated wastewater is likely to flow into the river.

"It is to despair.

You want to pull your hair out, but I don't have much left of it, ”said Cox.
