The activities of a campaign (16 days of combating gender-based violence) were launched in Deir ez-Zor, which aims to reduce this violence.

Member of the Executive Office of Deir ez-Zor Governorate Council, Dr. Siham Al-Khater, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the launch of the event from the governorate with all partners is a symbol of solidarity within the community to renounce this type of violence, and a working team has been formed with a number of partners in NGOs and religious bodies to implement a work program For 16 days, it includes various activities.

Al-Khater indicated that the activities started today with an exhibition of women’s products, a documentary film on combating gender-based violence was carried out, and a silent march was carried out in the streets of Deir ez-Zor city, starting from the governorate building.

In turn, the representative of the United Nations Population Fund, Dr. Muhannad Al-Hamsh, indicated that the campaign is a global occasion and a national event to raise awareness about issues of gender-based violence and to find appropriate solutions to them in order to reach a safe society in which equality and social justice are established, especially for women and girls.

For her part, Wafaa Hazaa from the Syrian Association for Development explained that gender-based violence is one of the titles of work to combat violence, and a series of activities and events have been developed on the occasion of this day to end violence and achieve equality.

For his part, Abd al-Salam pointed out a request from the Association to Raise the Health Standard that the association will carry out continuous campaigns that include distributing brochures on awareness against violence and implementing special programs in cooperation with the governorate that include a number of areas in the countryside and the city to reduce this type of violence against women and get rid of its repercussions on society .

The events were attended by Deir Ezzor Governor Fadel Najjar and the governorate's police chief, Major General Bilal Mahmoud.
