A Georgia court has convicted last night (Wednesday) of three men who shot and killed Ahmad Arbari, a black man.

Arbury, 25, was shot on February 23, 2020 in a confrontation with the three, while going for a run in the town of Brunswick.

The three, Gregory McMichael and his son Travis and another man named William Bryan, were convicted of a range of offenses, including murder, aggravated assault, false imprisonment and criminal intent to commit a crime.

Defendants said they acted in self-defense during Arbury's arrest;

Prosecutors said the motive is racist and now the three are facing minimum sentences of life imprisonment.

The jury debated for about ten hours before making the verdict.

The trio were found guilty of murder, aggravated assault, false imprisonment and criminal intent to commit a crime.

In February the three men will face another trial in a federal hate crime case, alleging they attacked Arbury because he is black.

The video, released after the incident, shows a black man running on a running track on the left side of the road with a truck parked in front of him in the middle of the road.

One person was in the cab of the truck, and another was standing by the open driver's door.

Arberry crossed the road to overtake the truck through the driver's side, then crossed back to the front of the truck.

Shots were heard in the background, and in the video, the runner was seen fighting with a man over what looked like a rifle.

Another shot was fired, and the young black man was seen hitting the man with the rifle.

Then another shot is heard, from zero range, and the young man continues a few steps until he collapses.

According to Gregory McMichael, 64, he and his son Travis chased Arberry because they suspected him of being a burglar.

Arbury's mother, Wanda Cooper Jones, said she believes her son, a former football player, just ran in the Stella Shores neighborhood before being killed.
