The cases were in the press: a work of art that had just been installed on the pergola had been completely destroyed by vandals. There had also been incidents in the parking garages. According to the law, video surveillance is possible if it takes place in a restricted area (parking garage) and in a time-limited area, at night, said Marcus Kleebaur, chief of the public order department, in the city council. In contrast to other areas where the transmission is evaluated “live”, such as in the Munich subway, the data in Bad Wörishofen are only used retrospectively when incidents have occurred again, said Kleebaur. Otherwise the data would be deleted.
According to Kleebaur, almost everything has been tried to clear up the incidents or to stop the vandalism; In addition to increased police patrols, road workers were also deployed. And one does not want to criminalize young people, stressed Kleebaur like Daniel Plfügl and other city councilors, nor prohibit them from meeting in these places such as the pergola.
But all measures to master the destructiveness of certain people would not have been fruitful.
Mayor Stefan Welzel called the surveillance the “method of choice” and Daniel Pflügl added that from a “professional point of view” he could only endorse the approach;
Pflügl is known to be a criminal investigation officer.
Knowing that they would never have “100 percent efficient measures”, but that they would definitely have a certain deterrent effect, the city councils finally spoke out in favor of this approach.
