To the surprise of thousands of ultra-Orthodox, the content on their mobile devices has suddenly been deleted, Haredi websites report.
The reason is probably an update to a filter version found on their mobiles.
For example, customers of a filtering company called "Supervised Plus" report that all the content on their mobile device has disappeared.
In order to use mobile devices without being exposed to content that they define as problematic, many ultra-Orthodox use content filtering software, and these are trained.
In recent weeks, there have been protests against these devices, and previous attempts have been made to introduce alternative devices, but without success.
In practice, ultra-Orthodox who wish to remain in the community in full must have a "stupid" phone or alternatively a filtered device, with the specific permission of Max.
In the last few hours, there have been reports from ultra-Orthodox people holding up filtered phones that as a result of a version update, the content on their cell phones has been deleted.
The "Behadrei Haredim" website quoted customers as saying that they were in complete shock.
"Our whole life is inside the device and now everything is erased."
According to reports, after being required to update the mobile version, the device was reset and all the information on it was deleted.
"Behadrei Haredim" brought a response from the "Mashgach Plus" company in which they confirmed that there was a malfunction in the system.
"We are currently making every effort to find out the source of the problem."
They recommended that "anyone in possession of such a device should disconnect it from the Internet network and back up all the material, in order to avoid unnecessary mental anguish."
