The Thuringian AfD state and parliamentary group leader Björn Höcke is said to have been infected with the corona virus.

This is reported by several media outlets.

The MDR Thuringia relies on information from state parliament and security circles.

The editorial network Germany (RND) reported that a quick test by the AfD politician was positive.

At the request of SPIEGEL, neither Höcke's office manager nor spokesman wanted to comment.

Group spokeswoman Lydia Funke also told the MDR Thuringia that the AfD does not comment on issues relating to the health of employees.

On Wednesday, Höcke did not take part in the special plenary session in the state parliament on the pandemic situation.

According to the Thuringian Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the AfD Thuringia plays a "prominent role" in the protests against the Corona protective measures.

It can be described as "formative for the protest events".

Höcke himself had declared the corona pandemic to be over in an MDR summer interview 2020.

On Wednesday, the justice committee of the Thuringian state parliament lifted Höckes immunity.

The background is a request from the Halle public prosecutor's office in the neighboring state of Saxony-Anhalt (read more here).

The Saxony-Anhalt Greens chairman Sebastian Striegel had filed a criminal complaint against Höcke.

The reason was a campaign speech by Höcke in Merseburg in May, which he ended with the words "Everything for Germany".

Striegel referred to a report by the Scientific Service of the Bundestag, in which the use of the phrase "Everything for Germany" in a speech at a meeting was punishable because it was a slogan of the Nazi organization SA.
