This is a new step in the project for the future Grand Paris-Nord hospital in Saint-Ouen, which should lead to the merger of the Bichat hospitals in Paris (18th century) and Beaujon in Clichy (Hauts-de-Seine).

On Wednesday, the Assistance publique - Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) and the automobile group Stellantis announced in a press release that they have officially signed the sale of the former PSA factory, on which the university hospital campus (CHU) must be located. raise in 2028.

Only about thirty workers were still working, a few months ago, in this factory located in the city center.

André Citroën had acquired it in 1924 when the place had been used, since 1846, as a factory for the manufacture of steam engines.

In 2018, when PSA announced the closure of its Saint-Ouen site, the place still employed 324 people.

"They have all been reclassified, except a few who were about to retire," said Stellantis this Thursday, which also indicates that two people left the automotive group to join, ironically ... the AP- HP.

Temporary occupation of the site in 2022 before its demolition?

The demolition of the plant is scheduled from the end of 2022. By then, the AP-HP indicates in this press release that it is working with the municipality of Saint-Ouen on "the transitional uses of the site".

In other words, the place could temporarily host cultural events for example, before finally saying goodbye to the city.

The start of work at the CHU is expected "from 2024."

The future hospital will have nearly a thousand beds.

It will host 12,500 students, coming in particular from the medical training and research units of the University of Paris-Diderot.

This project estimated at 1.3 billion euros, which will lead to the closure of two hospitals, remains highly contested locally, as well as among the staff of Bichat and Beaujon, who were moved in an open letter sent to the President of the Republic.

After the public inquiry which ended on October 15, a report and the opinion of the investigating commissioner must be submitted to the prefect of Seine-Saint-Denis around mid-December, "before the latter decides to continuation of the public utility declaration procedure ”, indicates the AP-HP.
