2021-11-25T14:41:17.266Z

The new Infection Protection Act is less than a week old, and the federal states want to change parts of it again. The law provides for daily tests for everyone in nursing homes - the health ministers are calling for them to be weakened.

The health ministers of the federal states are rebelling against a requirement from the new Infection Protection Act with their own resolution.

The law stipulates that employees and visitors to clinics, nursing homes and practices will in future have to submit a daily test - including those who have been vaccinated.

The federal states now want to weaken the regulation.

In an amendment submitted to SPIEGEL, the health ministers of the federal states are in favor of two tests per week.

"Daily testing of fully immunized employees leads to unreasonable loads in areas already affected by the pandemic," says the decision.

Test and laboratory capacities have already been exhausted in the fourth wave.

The country representatives also mock the equality of vaccinated and unvaccinated people: It lowers motivation to vaccinate, "especially in these highly sensitive areas".

The resolution was unanimously signed by all 16 health ministers.

You are calling on the Bundestag to revise the Infection Protection Act accordingly.

Measures put to the test

The amendment was pushed through by the SPD, Greens and FDP last week in the Bundestag.

It is intended to replace the epidemic situation of national scope as the previous legal basis through a series of measures to combat pandemics.

The emergency expires this Thursday, it has so far been the determining instrument in the pandemic.

In addition to compulsory testing, the law also includes 3G requirements in the workplace as well as in buses and trains.

On the other hand, general school or business closings should no longer be possible in the future.

Above all, the Union-led federal states had rebelled against the new law.

After a federal-state round last Thursday, it was agreed that the law should be evaluated in three weeks and, if necessary, improved.
