How the traffic light wants to change the everyday life of the citizens

Many of the formulations in the coalition agreement sound grandiose - but behind them there are very specific changes for the everyday life of the citizens. A selection of what the traffic light has in store for whom.

Many of the formulations in the coalition agreement sound grandiose - but behind them there are very specific changes for the everyday life of the citizens.

A selection of what the traffic light has in store for whom.

Berlin - The Ampel-Coalition has big plans: The fight against global warming hovers above everything.

Germany should take responsibility in the world.

This includes, so to speak, an industrial revolution, a mammoth project.

But what does the coalition agreement between the SPD, Greens and FDP actually mean on a small scale, in people's everyday lives?

The new government also wants to change a few things in the daily lives of families, tenants, drivers and others:

Families and children

Families with children should benefit from more daycare places and all-day offers in schools.

A basic child benefit is primarily intended to relieve families with little money.

This bundles the previous child benefit, child allowance and any benefits from the education and participation package and other things.

After the birth of a child, the partners should also be released from work for two weeks.

With the basic parental allowance, there should be one more partner month.

Tenants and homeowners

Tenants should no longer bear the additional heating costs alone due to the higher CO2 price. The aim is to achieve a "fair division" with the landlords. To this end, the traffic light wants to develop a step model according to building energy classes by mid-2022 - if politicians fail to do this in time, it will be split in half from June 1st. In addition, the rental price brake, which limits new rents after moving in areas with a tight housing market, will be extended. Rent increases are also more restricted in these areas.

Homeowners have to be prepared for higher costs - even if the traffic light parties promise support.

Anyone building or renovating a new building will soon have to comply with more ambitious energy standards.

That means more insulation, possibly new windows and more heat generation with solar and biofuels.

In private new buildings, solar panels on the roofs should become the rule, but not an obligation.

In addition, from 2025 only heating systems that work with 65 percent renewable energies, such as heat pumps, are to be installed.

Relief for electricity customers

Electricity customers are relieved in view of the high energy costs.

From 2023, the EEG surcharge to promote green electricity will no longer be financed through the electricity bill, but by the federal government.

According to the comparison portal Verivox, this relieves an average family by around 177 euros per year.

In addition, the traffic light wants to pay a one-off increased heating cost subsidy at short notice.

Petrol and diesel are becoming more expensive

Drivers must assume that fuel prices will continue to rise: in 2022 the price of CO2 will rise, which will make petrol and diesel more expensive.

However, there is no faster increase in the price of CO2, as demanded by the Greens.

Car buyers should assume that from the beginning of the 2030s only CO2-neutral vehicles will be registered.

Before that, the charging network for electric cars should be larger.

State subsidies for e-cars and plug-in hybrids will be reduced: Eligible cars have to make a special contribution to climate protection through long ranges, for example.

After 2025, there should also no longer be any innovation bonus.

Train travelers can hope for more cross-border and more night train offers.

Pension and provision

The statutory pension should at least remain stable.

In addition, more self-employed are to be included in the statutory pension insurance.

The paid-in money is to be partly invested in the capital market, from which the traffic light promises better returns.

Employees should be able to voluntarily pay part of their wages into a public fund for additional private insurance.

Minimum wage rises

Low-wage earners benefit from the increase in the minimum wage from currently 9.60 to 12 euros.

“That means a wage increase for ten million citizens,” says the future Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD).

The regular adjustment is actually a matter for the minimum wage commission - this should be broken once.

Citizens' money instead of Hartz IV

Long-term unemployed people should get what is known as citizen benefits instead of Hartz IV.

In the first two reference years, the property or apartment is not checked.

Those who are covered by the citizens' allowance should not have to worry about the savings and the housing situation for the time being.

Obligations to cooperate for the unemployed and sanctions are to remain, but will be reorganized by the end of 2022 at the latest.

The way to the German passport

Dual citizenship should be possible for citizens with foreign roots.

In addition, the route to the German passport will be simplified and, if you are particularly well integrated, will be possible after three years.

Children born in Germany to foreign parents should become German citizens at birth if the mother or father has been lawfully living in Germany for five years.

Anyone who learns German as a rejected asylum seeker, secures their livelihood through work and does not commit a criminal offense, has new opportunities to stay in Germany permanently.

Well-integrated, tolerated young people should be given the opportunity to stay in the country after three years and up to the age of 27.

Family reunification is being expanded for refugees.

Nursing services

The traffic light wants to make a billion available for the bonus.

Nursing staff with small children should be entitled to family-friendly working hours.

The care allowance for care at home should be adjusted regularly.

Caregiving relatives should receive more relief offers and, for example, wage replacement for care-related breaks.

Home office flat rate

Those who work from home should still be able to claim a flat rate on their tax return in the coming year.

You can set aside 5 euros per day in the home office, but a maximum of 600 euros per year.

However, the sum is one of the advertising costs, for which all taxpayers are charged a flat rate of 1000 euros anyway.

So only those who come with their advertising costs over 1000 euros benefit.

Anyone who would like to work from home even after the pandemic should be entitled to a conversation with their employer.

Driver's license from 16

Young people should be able to vote earlier and get a driver's license.

The voting age for federal elections is to be reduced to 16 years.

Accompanied driving should also be possible from the age of 16 instead of the previous 17 years.

The fact remains, however, that up to the 18th birthday you can only drive with an accompanying person who is at least 30 years old.

Anonymity on the Net

The traffic light promises Internet users anonymity on the Internet: They want as little monitoring and storage of communication data as possible.

Anyone who concludes contracts online should in future also be able to revoke them simply by clicking a button.

In addition, consumers should have a right to repairs.

Products that are used for a long time should have a correspondingly long warranty.
