Yesterday, the Jerusalem Municipality approved the construction of a new neighborhood in Jerusalem - across the Green Line.

The neighborhood, to be called "Atarot", is expected to be built in North Jerusalem, along with other neighborhoods across the line, and spread over an area of about 1,243 dunams in one of the most important land reserves in the Jerusalem metropolitan area - the abandoned Atarot airport area.

This is an area designated under the "Deal of the Century" to become a Palestinian tourist area.

The Palestinians see construction there as further harm to the chances of reaching a permanent settlement.

According to the plan approved by the committee, the neighborhood is expected to include thousands of housing units, as well as space for hotels, employment and commerce, public buildings, as well as open spaces.

The old airport site is due to be preserved.

The local committee recommended to the district committee to approve the plan, which was initiated by the Ministry of Construction and Housing and prepared by architect Yuval Kadmon.
