He called on the owners of automated textile factories for towels, bathrobes, bed sheets and summer blankets in Damascus and its countryside to provide the production process requirements for their factories to continue providing the local market with products and not to be interrupted.
During a meeting held today in the Damascus and Rural Chamber of Industry, the industrialists demanded the extension of the decision of the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade issued on the 15th of last July regarding allowing the import of cotton threads for a period of 6 months only, ending on the 31st of next month, and allowing the import of cotton threads for a whole year until the end of the year 2022.
A number of industrialists also demanded to secure laboratory supplies from cotton threads to “find an emergency solution” in order to avoid reducing their production capacity, until they are able to import the material or secure 40 percent of their allocations as a minimum to ensure the continuity of the facilities’ work.
In a statement to SANA’s representative, a member of the board of directors of the Damascus and Rural Chamber of Industry and the head of the textile sector in the chamber, Noureddine Samha, pointed out the need to search for alternatives and find solutions in partnership with the public sector, and to adopt alternative and quick solutions to avoid any obstacles facing these factories or causing a decrease in their production capacity, stressing the importance of supporting the capabilities of Factories that produce towels, bathrobes, bed sheets and summer blankets to secure the market need and maintain the large workforce that works within them.
Simha pointed to the importance of coordinating with the Ministry of Industry and the General Organization for Textile Industries to discuss the problem of providing cotton threads and finding solutions as soon as possible.
