Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed today that Russia stands against the politicization of the Olympic Games everywhere in the world, including the 2022 Winter Games in China.
"Our basic position is that we stand against the politicization of organizing the Olympic Games everywhere in the world and this position is certainly valid with regard to the Winter Games in China," TASS news agency quoted Zakharova as saying, stressing that sports should remain outside politics.
"The United States is constantly using its usual methods under unreasonable pretexts regarding setting preconditions that have nothing to do with sports," Zakharova added.
The United States organizes media and political campaigns aimed at undermining the organization of the Olympic Games in countries over which the United States believes it exercises its authority.
Beijing will host the Winter Olympics from February 24, becoming the first city to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics after hosting the 2008 Olympics.
