Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen

- The social association VdK fulfills several important social functions: nationally as an audible voice in social policy, on site through professional advice, for example on pension issues, in its office - and last but not least as a meeting place from person to person in the voluntary work of the association .

The VdK local association with the largest number of members in the district, namely the one in Bad Tölz, is now without a board.

His work can only continue if new volunteers are found.

Hertha Pecha was very active for many years

For a long time, Hertha Pecha was the face of the VdK local association on site.

She was chairwoman for 17 years and filled her office with passion, as part of an eight-person board team.

But as she reports, there was recently one death on the board of directors, and another member had to resign due to family circumstances.

And for health reasons, Hertha Pecha is now forced to take it easy.

The remaining board members would no longer have been able to close the resulting gaps through extra work.

Apart from the youngest, the 59-year-old secretary, "everyone is between the ages of 70 and 86," reports Hertha Pecha, who is 74 herself.

Ultimately, the entire well-rehearsed board team decided to stop together.

"I always enjoyed my work"

“It hurts all of us,” Pecha emphasizes. The members had been informed of the move by letter. The response is regret, but also a lot of understanding for this decision for health and age reasons. She herself always "enjoyed doing her job as chairperson very much," says the woman from Tölz. The VdK local association organizes trips, day trips, get-togethers, Christmas trips, and sometimes a joint visit to the cinema or puppet theater. Pecha also attended the Christmas celebrations of other VdK local associations in the district - as the district chairwoman, which she was temporarily, but also as a “reading aunt”, as she says with a laugh. "That's my hobby."

The tasks also include “a lot of things that you can't see but that have to be done,” says Hertha Pecha.

This includes “tapping on the fingers” of the municipalities so that they can promote the issue of accessibility, for example.

In addition, the VdK local association wrote to each member "for round or semicircular birthdays," as Hertha Pecha reports.

For them it was a matter of honor not to send out standard phrases, but to find personal words for everyone, sometimes a little poem.

With around 1,600 members in the local association, which also includes Ellbach and Reichersbeuern, that was no problem.

Corona made work difficult

Overall, however, Pecha sees the local association as a "carer". During the social activities with the members, you can occasionally notice “if someone can't afford a new washing machine or can't pay the rent” - problems with which many would rather not ask for help officially. The VdK then tries to help quickly. In informal get-togethers, the phrase "You, I have to ask you something" is often used in relation to some everyday bureaucratic matters. Then Hertha Pecha either has a tip ready herself or can refer to the social law advice from the office.

VdK volunteers would also regularly call members and ask how it works, or visit nursing homes if desired.

In this regard, however, Corona has recently made work very difficult.

"When you stand outside in the open and have a conversation over the garden fence, it's really tedious," says Hertha Pecha.

The 74-year-old is confident that the work of the VdK local association can soon continue under new leadership.

She promises her successors that there will be a lot of support from the district association and the district office.

What you have to bring with you for the office and be ready to give to other people is above all one thing: time.
