One person was killed and 43 others were injured after a fire broke out in a mine in the Kemerovo region, southwest Siberia, eastern Russia.

The Russian Tass news agency quoted a source in the local emergency service as saying today, "The fire broke out as a result of coal dust igniting in one of the mine's ventilation holes, and then smoke spread throughout the coal mine, causing the death of one person, wounding more than forty people, and the evacuation of 236 workers."

Rescue teams with the participation of 11 branches of the rescue units of the Russian Emergencies Ministry continued to work at the site of the accident, where 285 miners were present.
